What is unique about being a woman programmer – What is it like to be a programmer in Kampala? (Part 10)
What is unique about being a woman programmer?
I met with some young female programmers. They said that to be a female programmer was challenging. To be a programmer you have to work long hours. One interviewee said, ‘Woman break down fast energetically. As a programmer you have to go into the field to collect data and it’s a lot of work. Woman have to kill the idea that it’s ok to feel sorry for themselves because they are woman. Because what a man can do a woman can do and often times better.’ I asked about the male to female ratio and learned that it can be 1 in 5 and sometimes 1 in 10.
I asked one female programmer if she could create the next Google here in Kampala and she responded, ‘Why not?’
